The B‑17F ‘Memphis Belle’ completed its 25th and final combat mission on May 17, 1943, making history as one of the first U.S. Army Air Forces bombers to reach this milestone in World War II.
Crewed by men whose bravery brought attention to Memphis, the Belle returned home a symbol of hope and heroism. Its story spread nationwide, cementing the Bluff City’s pride in its airmen and legacy.
The Memphis Belle lives on as a source of inspiration and local pride—a testament to resilience and leadership that shaped Memphis’s role in American history.
