Colin Rafferty –

Your Memphis Grizzlies took down the Los Angeles Clippers 121-103 last night inside the Intuit Dome and improve to 3-0 on the season against the Clippers.

Despite being down after the first quarter, the Grizzlies fought back and took the lead by the end of the second.

They wouldn’t look back, scoring 34 in the third and 31 in the fourth.

They were led by Jaren Jackson Jr.’s 31-point, 4 rebound, 4 assist, and 5 blocks night. Jaren’s struggles have not shown against the Clippers as he is averaging around 22-points a game this year.

This was a much-needed game for him and the Grizzlies, he had been struggling and committing goofy fouls, that was not the case yesterday. He came out with a fire and had 21 before the end of the 1st half.

Scoring at all levels and being that defensive, almost safety-like, prowess that makes guys second guess where he is when driving to the lane.

The “Block Panther” was out in full force. Welcome back Jaren, it’s good to see you.

Cam Spencer, yet again, showed the NBA and those watching that he is here, he is going to talk trash, and he will hit three, after three, after three, after three… he is the energizer three-point bunny.

He was unconscious last night from behind the arc, dropping a career-high 27 points, adding 6 assists to the score sheet as well. 7-10 from three-point land, 9-13 from the field, I cannot think of a single Grizzlies player that was or has been that deadly from three, we got a good one.

This was a game that was won on the defensive side and, in turn, made for some great offense. Getting out on the fast break, outlet passes getting up court fast and then controlling the game with some half-court sets that had great ball movement and a team effort.

Despite losing Edey they were able to force 19 turnovers, had more points in the paint (52-38) and had more blocks than the Clippers. The rebounding battle was kept close, only 7 more in favor of the Clippers.

The Grizz shot 52% from the field and 41% from three, those numbers are great and need to be around there if they want to continue to beat teams without the “Big Zamboni.”

There was a scare though, with about 3 minutes left in the game Ja Morant drove to the basket and rolled his left ankle on Clippers Center Ivica Zubac.

He immediately came up limping and in pain. He was able to get off the court with one leg, but once on the bench was able to get up and walk around, gingerly, but this is not a good sign.

Hopefully this is nothing severe as he just came back from a calf injury, maybe it is just a game, but something to monitor as the days go on. We just got him back, don’t be stupid and get him more injured.

Morant finished the night with 12 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block. A solid night that would’ve had a few more points and assists had he played the rest of the game.

Jaylen Wells added 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists, while Cedric Coward posted 12 pts, 2 reb, and 2 assists; both played well defensively and then were in the right spots to score on the other end.

It is just a joy watching guys like Wells, Coward, and Spencer; Grizzlies fans should rejoice in knowing that they have absolute killers on the three-point line and that they take pride in their ability to keep guys in front of them or force them into difficult shots.

Staying up late to watch that game was all but worth it, yes it sucks that Ja may have tweaked his calf, but they committed to playing hard-nosed defense and it worked.

They will need more of these kinds of efforts moving forward, but this is a good indication that they aren’t as bad as they have been in the early goings.

Now just get healthy and stay healthy.

The Grizzlies will be back in action tomorrow for a road game against the sixth-place team in the Western Conference, the 17-9 Minnesota Timberwolves.

Be on the lookout for the preview and remember to wear the bear!
