For some time now, the Grizzlies have had a string of injuries to derail a good thing going, whether it was the abysmal 2023-2024 season or even going back to the 2018-2019 season.

The injuries have been abundant.

Ja, Jaren, Bane, Wells, Edey, Clarke, Vince, G.G., and on. You couldn’t name a guy who has played for the Grizz who hasn’t spent some significant time on the injured list in the past 4 years.

Now this isn’t a curse or bad juju, it is just unfortunate. Some have lined up with others that just made it impossible to forge any consistency.

This year has started out no differently.

Let’s begin with the recent news, Scotty Pippen Jr is OUT and had surgery on his left big toe, to be re-evaluated in 12 weeks. The estimated return date is January 15th.

Ty Jerome is OUT with a calf injury from the final preseason game. He will be re-evaluated in four weeks.

Both Brandon Clarke and Zach Edey are OUT and won’t be seen until at least a week or two into November. Clarke had a procedure to fix knee synovitis, or “inflammation to the lining of the knee joint.” November 15th return date. Edey was cleared for basketball activities and is expected to return by November 7th . Re-injured ankle during offseason workouts which required surgery.

I would expect some of these projected start dates to move around for some of these guys, as the front office has stressed the idea of being precautious.

The good news is that Ja and Jaren will be on the court for the Grizzlies opener for the first time since 2021.

If the Grizz can tread water for the first few weeks, help is on the way and would be important as the season gets ramped up.
