After five decades of serving the Memphis community, Outdoors Inc., one of the city’s longest-standing specialty retailers, is officially closing its doors. Since 1972, Outdoors Inc. has been a go-to spot for Memphians seeking everything from canoes and kayaks on the Mississippi, to bicycles for the Shelby Farms Greenline, and ski gear for out-of-town family adventures.
End of an Era
This closure marks the end of a local era. The retailer’s shelves once brimmed with gear for every kind of outdoor enthusiast. Whether you were prepping for a day on the Wolf River, visiting Meeman-Shelby Forest, or outfitting for your first bike ride at Shelby Farms Park, Outdoors Inc. was often the first stop. Their annual Canoe and Kayak Race became a Memphis tradition, bringing residents together for some friendly competition on the river.
