Colin Rafferty –
Your Memphis Grizzlies have made a few decisions concerning this year’s NBA Trade Deadline.
Here’s what to know.
Feb. 2nd, Grizzlies trade Jaren Jackson Jr., John Konchar, Vince Williams Jr., and Jock Landale to the Utah Jazz for Walter Clayton Jr., Kyle Anderson, Taylor Hedricks, Geroges Niang (waived), and three future first-round picks.
A big move that had the city saddened by the loss of The Block Panther, but if you were going to move on from him get something in return, picks and players worked.
Feb. 5th, Grizzlies acquired Eric Gordon (37) for a 2032 second-round pick swap, a salary-clearing dump to gain future draft capital. The Grizzlies sent Philadelphia the rights to Justinian Jessup.
I expect Gordon to be waived.
The Grizzlies have 16 rostered players; you can only have 15 NBA contracted players. It would be weird if they kept him, he’s 37 and played in 6 games this year.
But the biggest shock to the system was that superstar Ja Morant was not traded, what happened. The national media had it locked up and confirmed he was going to be moved. Since November they were saying the team was going to move on from him.
So, what happened?
The market wasn’t there for him, his recent injuries and what not attributed to that. Really?
A former Rookie of the Year, a Most Improved Player of the Year, one of the top selling jerseys, a top selling shoe, and has superstar talent doesn’t have a market?
Hard to see, but the asking price may have been too high.
Good, it shouldn’t have ever been for a bag of peanuts. He has shown he can be the guy, just hasn’t lived up to it in recent memory.
He is averaging 19.5 pts, 3.3 rebounds, and 8.1 assists per game in 20 games this season. It’s there, just got to have him out on the court.
The Grizzlies will move forward with the guard until the end of the season, what they do with him then remains to be seen.
For now, 12 stays.
