Colin Rafferty –

On Saturday your Memphis Grizzlies lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers 108-100, in a game that optically looked much better than the past few weeks.

Zach Edey was back on the floor for the Grizz, and boy did he look better than I thought he would be coming off his injury. Still some things to clean up but having him out there is only a plus.

The big man finished with 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Cedric Coward was also another new name in the starting line-up. He finished with 10 pts, 8 reb, and 2 assists.

The Grizzlies bench helped provide some sparks throughout the game but never could quite take control late in the game. 3 quarters of decent ball and then in the fourth, the Cav’s pulled away with about 5 minutes left in the game.

A couple Donovan Mitchell three’s, a few missed shots trying to respond and it all but sunk the Grizz late.

The big question mark though is how bad the Ja Morant injury is. He only played 7 minutes before he went back to the locker room and didn’t hit the floor again.

It is said to be a right-calf injury and with the addition of Jahmai Machack over the weekend has a lot of people speculating that it could be worse than we expect.

This sucks, because Morant looked like he really enjoyed having Edey back on the floor as he hit him early with an alley-oop.

The Grizzlies waived PJ Hall and reassigned G.G. Jackson to the Memphis Hustle to make room for Mashack.

Despite shooting 36% from the field and 28% from three-point land, the Grizzlies never let the lead get past 11. They fought and came up short; I don’t think any fan would be upset with the effort that afternoon.

Donovan Mitchell led the way for the Cav’s putting up 30 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. Evan Mobley added 22 pts, 13 reb, and 4 assists.

The Cav’s bench did not provide much help, but they had enough from their starting five that kept the Grizzlies at bay.

No doubt had Ja been able to finish this game it might have ended with a win.

The Grizzlies will need to dig deep on Tuesday as they will take on the San Antonio Spurs.

They are led by the NBA’s most intriguing player to watch Victor Wembamyama, the 7’4” big man that moves like a guard, thankfully Edey will be there to keep him from getting going early down low.
